DOMAINS, HOSTING & WORDPRESS INSTALLATION
This tutorial video runs through how websites work (in simplified form) and how to get a domain name, set up hosting, and install wordpress on your new site.
The services I used/recommend for domains and hosting are:
- Domain registration: Godaddy (though frankly any registration service will do)
- High performance web hosting: Lightningbase ($9.95 per month per site)
- Basic web hosting (good enough for most people): Siteground ($14.95 per month for multiple sites)
Note: if you already have things set up for your domain like using it for Gmail via Google Apps, then you'll need to do something more complex like changing the A or CNAME records on your domain so that the website gets served by the hosting company but email comes from Gmail or whatever you've got set up. Speak to the company you got your domain from for help.
