INTRODUCTION TO THE "BUILD YOUR WEBSITE" MASTERCLASS
Your website is one of the core components of your marketing strategy. It's where most people find out about you, get acquainted with your work, consume your content, and sign up for regular communications with you.
Ideally, you'll have a great value web developer who knows how to create attractive, high converting websites as part of your team. Unfortunately, web developers who really understand marketing are few and far between. And sometimes they can be really expensive.
So in this masterclass I'm going to show you how you can create your own simple but highly effective website using the free Wordpress content management system.
In these videos I cover:
- The most important pages on your site
- Modern trends in web design
- The best current "template" for a website for a small business or sole practitioner
- How to get a domain name, hosting for your site and set up a blank Wordpress installation.
- How to create your Home Page, About Me Page and other key pages
- How to create Landing Pages for your site
In this introduction video I walk you through the "theory" or what effective websites look like today and how we're going to build your site.
The services and tools I recommend for this masterclass are:
- Domain registration: Godaddy (though frankly any registration service will do)
- High performance web hosting: Lightningbase ($9.95 per month per site)
- Basic web hosting (good enough for most people): Siteground ($14.95 per month for multiple sites)
- Page builder plugin: Thrive Architect ($67 one-off for one site, $97 for unlimited sites) or Thrive Themes Membership for all their plugins/themes
Some good examples of websites to look at for inspiration (in terms of design - you might want to lock up your credit cards as they'll try to get your money too :) )...
- Marie Forleo - Big, bold design, layered "one page" home page. Single column on main pages. A bit too fancy for us in terms of video backgrounds, but a good site to take inspiration from.
- Chris Ducker - another example of a good, layered "one page" home page with big, bold, personality focused design.
- Videofruit - Bryan Harris's site has a good, layered home page and a focused single column blog.
